Age of Sigmar 3.0 FAQ: Daughters of Khaine

GW released a bombshell of new FAQs on Friday, covering errata for the core book and lengthy FAQs for each faction. And as always, we’ve got you covered with the rundown of what’s changed and what it means for your games. In this series of Hot Take articles, we’ll be covering the changes and our initial reactions to them but for more detailed analysis, check back over the next two weeks as we dive deeper into how these changes affect the game and its factions.

Daughters of Khaine were one of the lucky ones to get to end the edition on a new book. They got to sit firmly in the upper to top tier armies toward the end of 2nd which was met with resentment or jubilation, depending on who you are. Does their win streak hold up? Let’s look.

The Good

  • Book is largely preserved – While the FAQ looks daunting it’s largely a lot of repeat information that needs to be written to conform with current writing, for multiple warscrolls. Stuff like warscroll prayers giving a specific answering value instead of the 3+ across the board. All of these prayers do have Answering values of 3 though, so the actual gameplay doesn’t change. Overall not terribly shocking that the book was written with 3.0 in mind.
  • Heart of Fury is better – Now it requires you to roll a die to get the reduce damage effect, but don’t panic yet. On a 1-5 it still reduces damage but on a 6 it adds +1 to Attacks! It goes away after but that’s worth it!

The Bad

  • Unquenchable Fervour – The final step of the Blood Rites now reduces rend by 1 instead of Reroll 1s to save. In like with Age of Sigmar’s general reduction in rerolls,  it’s not the worst thing that could happen. It stacks with +1 to save so if an enemy’s weapon has any Rend it’s a potential +2 to saves if you have Mystic Shield or something similar up. Games are more likely to get into the 5th round than they did in 2nd ed, so the buff can actually be appreciated. Toward the end of the game though you probably want that Reroll more than rend.
  • Relic Nerfs – The Crimson Shard is now only +1 to wound instead of 2 (since you can’t have more than +1 to wound rolls) and the Khainite Pendant is 2 prayers instead of 3, though the mechanic otherwise works the same. Mostly just bringing it in line with priests in 3.0, as multiple prayers are pretty rare.
  • Bladewind Nerf – The Bladewind endless spell now deals 1 Mortal Wound on a 2+ instead of guaranteed D3. It still does what you take it for, stopping cover saves so it won’t radically change it.

The Ugly

  • Not Much – Maybe the Melusai, but only on the outside.

Overall the changes that do exist aren’t going to radically change the playstyle and given the high tier perch they occupy they probably would prefer it stay that way. It’s looking good for the Daughters!
