The hotly-anticipated Scourge of Ghyran event is upon us! In the runup to a new General’s Handbook set in Ghyran, the Realm of Life, Games Workshop are dropping new content for Age of Sigmar every single day. But this is no Grotmas style light and simple affair – with two pages of matched play rules for every single faction in the game this instead promises to be the most significant new content for the game since the Faction Pack releases. If that sounds overwhelming, that’s probably because it is. But never fear: your friendly local Goonhammer will be on hand every day to take a look at the new rules in depth.
What Is the Scourge of Ghyran?
It’s new rules for every army, for free. More specifically, each update will come in the form of one page of new faction rules and one page of updated warscrolls. Faction rules will vary from enhancements to battle formations to spell lores, the design team are looking to target areas where internal balance for an army is weakest and provide new options to shake things up. Warscroll updates will focus on units that aren’t quite working as intended or aren’t seeing any competitive play – each faction will get updates to one or two warscrolls, depending on how much space the warscroll takes up on the page.
What’s important to remember is that because of AoS 4’s modular system, all of this new content is optional. If your army gets a new spell lore, that’s a choice you can make instead of the old one, but the old one’s still there if you like it. Likewise even the updated warscrolls are optional and have their own pitched battle profiles as a Scourge of Ghyran version, so you can still take the original warscroll if you prefer it.
