As we enter the twelfth month of this neverending April spent socially distancing ourselves in ways that were at first cute and fun (“ha ha,” we said – “we’re shut-ins anyways!”) but have since turned to dread monotony, we’ve found ourselves wondering what we can do to foster a spirit of togetherness in these tough times. And also it seemed like a good way to spend some of this Patreon money that isn’t going to running events this year (R.I.P. Goonhammer Open US, March 2020 – April 2020).
So without further ado, we are please to announce:
The Goonhammer Annual Painting Competition: Lockdown Edition!
Everyone’s got more time for hobby stuff. Sure, some of us are busier than ever with our “real” jobs, but many of us have a yawning expanse of free time which we’re filling by frantically painting, trying to catch up on a backlog that we know, deep down, will never be complete. So it’s time to take that extra hobby time and turn it into sweet, sweet glory and awards. The Goonhammer Annual Painting Competition will be formally launching in two weeks (official entry forms will be made accessible soon and prizes will be announced), and will have FIVE CATEGORIES:
- Sci-fi Single Miniature
- Sci-fi Squad
- Fantasy Single Miniature
- Fantasy Squad (or fellowship or whatever)
- Open Competition
Each category except the Open Competition will have two prizes: A judges’ prize (awarded by a panel of Goonhammer editors) and a “Readers’ Choice” award, determined via a public vote available from the Goonhammer-reading public. The Open Competition will only be voted on, and will also be the only contest that regular Goonhammer contributors and editors can enter. That means that in total there are 9 prizes up for grabs!
We will begin taking entries from May 15th, 2020, with a final closing date of July 31st, 2020. Voting will open shortly after in August, with the winning entries announced no later than August 31st 2020. To enter, simply submit a photo through the entry form we’ll be providing on May 15th. Any model you painted after March 15th, 2020 is eligible for entry. No, we have no way to verify that you started painting something after lockdown started. Just be cool, OK?
So stay tuned for the official contest entry form and formal announcement on May 15th, which will have all of the relevant details of the contest like terms and conditions, prizes, and entry specifications. And in the meantime if you have any questions or feedback, feel free to drop us a comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Happy painting!
