Arks of Omens FAQ: The Goonhammer Hot Take

Games Workshop released an FAQ today for the Arks of Omen GT pack. It’s short but it addresses two of the major issues with the new missions packet (though not all of them, certainly). If you haven’t seen the new FAQ, you can find it here.

What Changed

  • A sentence on page 2 suggesting the starting CP for Arks games was 4 was removed. This was something that didn’t align with the text on following pages and likely was left in from some earlier draft. In Arks of Omens games you start with 6 CP…. even if you’re playing Incursion-sized games, which is a bit odd.
  • Battle Brothers rules for Drukhari were updated. If your Arks Detachment is a Drukhari Kabal, Wych Cult, or Haemonculus Detachment, you can include a Drukhari Patrol Detachment of a different type as an allied Detachment (i.e. if you have a Kabal Detachment, you can add a Wych Cult or Haemonculus Coven Detachment). All of the units in each will get an Obsession. This helps clear up one of the biggest issues with the Drukhari being forced into a single detachment, but doesn’t actually fix the Raiding Forces problem – there’s still no way to take one each of a Kabal, Coven, and Cult detachments, so the only way to get all three is to do a Realspace Raid.

What’s Not Here

There are a number of questions we still have and issues that haven’t been solved by this, such as “why can’t Genestealer Cults and Tyranids ally with each other?” This also doesn’t solve the problem introduced by Arks detachments including named characters with a built-in subfaction trait like Abaddon and the Silent King. It really feels like there should have been more Codex FAQs released in the wake of the Arks/MFM/Dataslate updates but so far this is all we’ve got. It at least seems like the Astra Militarum FAQ/errata that we desperately need is still on the horizon, however.
