This week our Mech Overview is returning to two ‘mechs we’ve looked at previously, the Thanatos and the Commando. Since publishing our initial reviews, both have gotten new variants in Shrapnel, so we’ve gone back through to add them.

Thanatos
Our full Thanatos review can be found here.
Added in Shrapnel 22, the Thanatos gets the 6S2, 6T, 7D, and 7D2. Among those are a slight tweak to the existing 6S, a terrific brawling heavy, and two very expensive clantech upgrades.

Commando
Our full Commando review can be found here.
Pulling out of Shrapnel 16, the Commando gets 9 new variants. While one (the 7T ‘Blazing Inferno II’) does try to do something interesting, most of the rest are variants on the same theme – one or two lasers, one or two SRM launchers, and being a 6/9 25 ton mech that’ll die to a gentle breeze.
In the future, look forward to us updating the Tian-Zong, Shadow Hawk, Blackjack, and whatever else gets released. I would’ve covered the Tian-Zong in this one, but the record sheet PDF doesn’t match the TRO from Shrapnel, and I’m waiting on the errata forums to sort out which one is correct.
