Blood Bowl: The Goonhammer Preseason

Greetings sports fans! It’s an exciting time for those of us who live and die by The Bloodiest Sport. Fresh hopefuls are eagerly anticipating draft night, trying to look their best for their team signing conference. The star players are throwing expensive cocktails at their agents in a bid to secure a bigger bag of gold this time. The rugged veteran journeymen of the leagues are stiffening their backs for another season of duty on the line of scrimmage. And above it all, the coaches are hoping for redemption or perhaps even another shot at the big time.

Yes, friends, the time is upon us, it is soon time for a new season of Blood Bowl. What this translates to in less fanciful terms is simple; a new edition of the rulebook, a new starter box to covet, and a new team to analyse.

Some of you out there are seasoned coaches, eager to start debating and testing the new rules both on the pitch and in the pub afterwards. Some of you out there have found yourself intrigued by the gridiron for the first time, seduced by the wonderful new models and the promise of a fresh, clarified rulebook. Some are lapsed coaches, perhaps still nursing sore wounds from spectacular reversals of fortune, so long ago. Well, whichever group you fall into, we want to guide your training montage and get you back in the game. In the leadup to the new edition release, and in the weeks and months that follow, we will be providing regular injections of coverage for coaches both new and old. But not the kind of injections that get you a league suspension.

You may have already caught our recent article outlining our hopes and expectations for Season 3 (and if not, check it out here), but this is just the beginning! We’re starting a new series of articles, The Goonhammer Preseason, to tide you over until Season 3 drops. Once it does, we’ll head straight into our post-release analysis.

Here’s some of what you can expect from us in the coming months:

  • Preseason analysis – As more information drops on the Season 3 changes, we’ll offer our thoughts and expectations.
  • Guidance for rookies – As we’re about to hit a wonderful entry point for the game, we’re going to make our case as to why you should be playing Blood Bowl, and what we consider the best ways to start.
  • More tactics – In both the pre and postseason release period, we’ll be offering advice and tips for good coaching that’ll stay relevant regardless of rules changes.
  • New content coverage – You’ll get our thoughts on the new box, the new rules, new models, and the new teams. We’ll take a look at any new big changes and shifts in the meta in greater detail, as well.
  • Updates to old articles – To keep our excellent earlier articles relevant, we’ll be updating some of our best content where necessary.
  • More team guides – We still have so many teams to cover, but we will do so, have no fear. Those teams we’ve already covered will get appropriate 3rd Season updates sooner or later as well.
  • All that other good stuff we do – Tournie writeups, hobby progress, meta analysis, interviews. It’s all good stuff.

Have no fear if you’re not yet quite as excited as we are for Season 3 to kick off, we’ll try our damnedest to get you there with time enough to preorder some athletic plastic. In the meantime if there’s any topic you want us to cover in the series going forward, you know where the comments section is.
