Welcome to Competitive Innovations, our weekly feature for a number of game lines across the tabletop wargame space. Each week our army list and tactics experts canvass the top tournaments for their game of specialty, looking at the week’s top match-ups and how they played out on the tabletop to let you know what’s hot, what’s not, and what might be coming next as the competitive meta evolves year-round.
Welcome back! This is a very small week, just one event in Norway at 28 people. Likely due to the imminent release of the General’s Handbook 2025-26, TOs are taking a break while the new book comes up to gin up some excitement in the community.
That said, the one event is using the Scourge of Ghyran ruleset. Since the book is basically in the wild at this point the TO’s just went ahead and ran an event using these rules. So if you pick up any oddities that’s why.
MOSSPIT 2025

Thoughts
Unique matchup here! Daughter’s of Khaine don’t get a lot of chance to show their stuff, and the Seraphon seem to really want to lean in on the new toys to play with, so it’s a great chance to look at what the new meta could mean for these armies.
The Seraphon list goes for a heavier Bruiser playstyle, largely in part to the new Oldblood. Morathi is a pretty good match for that, since all that damage is just going to whiff after the initial 3 so they’re likely to spread out and try and hit other targets. Avoiding spell damage is easier for the Daughter’s now, though it comes with the caveat of needing to hide near Obscuring Terrain (opening them to get hit from the Seraphon’s Terrain piece).
I would have expected a less optimized Seraphon list was still a Seraphon list, but surprisingly the Daughter’s actually crush it here and manage to break the 50 point ceiling from last season.
Result
Daughters of Khaine Victory – 52 – 35
Mikkel Blytt – Daughters of Khaine – 1st Place

Thoughts
Morathi lives again! Naturally, Morathi and the Shadow Queen remain as the centerpiece of the list. With little Morathi being one of the better casters in the game and big Morathi being a terrifying beat stick who can only take 3 wounds a turn. Big Morathi also makes the spear snakes better but giving them a Bonus attack, which they really appreciate with their crit mortals.
Normally Spear Snakes list lack numbers, so they take Witch Aelves as chaff to boost their numbers and screen out threats. This list builder decided to make them work for their lunch by adding a Slaughter Queen on Cauldron of Blood. Not only does this add a priest to the army, it gives +1 to saves to all infantry and +1 attack to the Witch Aelves. With that many attacks they may actually be able to do something.
The Best of the Rest
There were 3 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

- 3rd – Lasse Kalberg – Stormcast Eternals:Â Ionus leading Stormdrake Guard, Vanguard-Raptors and Prosecutors.

Wrap Up
Sorry for the very brief article this week. These lulls do happen, but it’s going to pick up very soon with the new General’s Handbook so see you again soon!
