Competitive Innovations in the Mortal Realms: 2025-10-15

Welcome to Competitive Innovations, our weekly feature for a number of game lines across the tabletop wargame space. Each week our army list and tactics experts canvass the top tournaments for their game of specialty, looking at the week’s top match-ups and how they played out on the tabletop to let you know what’s hot, what’s not, and what might be coming next as the competitive meta evolves year-round.

After LVO we have a really slow week, with only one small event out of the UK the GAF Jamboree. With the Battlescroll in full swing we’re likely to start seeing more list variations take shape so let’s take a look at what we got this week.

GAF Jamboree Volume 4

34-player, 5-round Grand Tournament in Kingston upon Hull, England, United Kingdom on October 11 2025. All the lists for this event can be found in Best Coast Pairings.

Thoughts

A strong alpha charge army vs. a brick wall. Most of the time, brick walls don’t due so hot in Sigmar due to its high level of lethality, but the Ruination Stormcast might just be able to do it.

Morrsarr Guard are the primary damage dealer of this army, able to zap the enemy with mortal wounds on the charge and then dish out some pretty gnarly hits. They’re only rend 1 base, but they get a long of swings and are pretty tanks in response.

That said, the Stormcast seem tailor made to resist their charges. They don’t have a ton of models, so there won’t be a bonus to the mortal wound roll. They have a 5+ ward to shake them off and they’re not cavalry, so no Rend bonus. As a result the Stormcast mostly just need to stand their ground while the prosecutors drop in and charge at the right time.

Thoughts

Stormcast got a lot of point cuts during the recent battlescroll but the skew seems to be sticking to ruination chamber stuff for now.

Sentinels of the Black Citadel gives a 5+ ward to a ruination chamber each turn, and then Gardus can grant the same to everyone else which means it will protect most of the things you care about. All ruination chamber units can shrug off an ability once per turn on a 3+, and Iridan grants a reroll meaning its basically guaranteed to succeed. He’s also a priest, which grants the army access to that all important teleport.

Prosecutors and Reclusians are the major hammers, Reclusians just hit like a brick shithouse, and Prosecutors get a 3D6 Charge, so they can drop on in from anywhere and hit the enemy hard.

The Best of the Rest
