Although it’s a big internet out there, the Tabletop digital universe is pretty small and spread out. In Content We Liked, we take a look at the articles, videos, podcasts, and products that caught our eyes or were noteworthy during the prior week you might have missed.
On the Internet at Large
Starting this week off on a Blanchian note, with this grim and grimy take on a Sister of Battle by jtrainpainting on Instagram. There’s so much going on with jtrain’s style here its nuts, we keep picking out new things to love every time we look it over. The high contrast between the messy blends and the super sharp edge highlights making all the details stand out, the fluorescently saturated reds standing out across the muted tones of the armour and metals, the checkerboard dags on the right pauldron. This thing is 3rd edition 40k through and through and its so damn good.
Imperial Fist Saturnine Terminator by Chris Buxey
Sticking LEDs and other electronic effects is always gonna be a winner, it adds a cool little touch to a figure to have their eyes glowing or engines humming. But this figure by Chris on Bluesky showcases an LED effect we’re honestly shocked we don’t see more. Weapon SFX, like this Saturnine’s Disintegrator beams made from LED lighting being shot through transparent rods and right into an extremely unfortunate Son of Horus. This effect owns so many bones, really giving a classic sci-fi deathray feel that makes the whole piece such a delight.
The Real Cinderella Story of Oguri Cap and Japanese Horse Racing by Goonhammer’s Marcy
Marcy’s horsegirl appreciation can’t be contained by Goonhammer forever, and has broken out onto the pages of Anime Herald with an excellently researched biography of Oguri Cap, the racehorse whose popularly broke horse racing into the Japanese mainstream and set off the chain of dominos that’s led to a so many of our contributors being obsessed with Uma Musume.
We couldn’t stop them from being revived in the big 2020’s. We couldn’t stop them spreading into Magic: the Gathering. Now Furbys are in our Warhams. Abandon hope as we ride into the Furpocalypse.
