Felime’s Road to Goonhammer Open: Episode 3: Revenge of the Ennui

Welcome to this week’s episode of my Road to Goonhammer Open. In last week’s episode we made good time and got a good amount done. In this week’s episode… well, we actually still get a lot done, but momentum can only carry so far. We also talk about getting back onto the hobby horse after falling off.

In order to match the pace of finishing PL I set last week (and need to keep up to make my goal) I needed to get something serious finished. Luckily I had something serious primed and ready to go (and mostly completed, in fact.)

Look at that thing! It’s practically finished already, so of course I launched myself right into finishing… wait. No. I’m getting an update from the Goonhammer newsroom. They are informing me that that is in fact NOT what happened. They’re now informing me that “I dragged my feet for several more days on finishing an intimidating model and instead painted something else?” That doesn’t… Oh, wait, yeah, that does sound a lot like me.

That’s more like it. I painted up the remaining normal Battle Sisters in my queue that were already primed as well as a hospitaller for good measure. Who was, apparently, not actually on my list. Could have sworn she was. I painted her, so she is now! That adds up to one Squad, plus a few dribs and drabs intended for other squads.

NOW I started painting the exorcist. Step one was airbrushing on the metals, followed by some much more labor intensive painting of the metal parts I couldn’t airbrush. After that it was mostly washes and a few.

That’s a bit more like it. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s visually striking on the tabletop and I’m pretty happy how it turned out overall. The white is all airbrushed except for on the doors. That took… Far, far, far too many coats of Ulthuan Grey followed by white to make smooth. Doing bit flat expanses of stark monolithic white with a brush are a recipe for tears, but it’s still doable.

And that’s the last of the progress for this week, let’s look at the scores!

Days to Goonhammer Open: 32

Power Level Painted this Week: 15

Power Level Complete: 64/125

Power Level Gained through Administrative Means: 4

Wait, what’s that last bit? Oh yeah, last week I discussed possibly switching up my list a bit and dropping the idea of running a brigade in the big game in favor of a Battalion and Patrol Detachment.

Changes of note are dropping 2 Battle Sister Squads, along with the Penitent Engine and Dominion Squad I previously had. That opened up room to add a second 5 woman dominion squad so that I can bring one of both Meltaguns and Storm Bolter. I also added the Hospitaller, another Rhino, and an inquisitor, who makes up the 4 additional PL gained, as he’s already painted.

This fellow will be tagging along on the crusade. I’m sure he isn’t up to anything untoward. Anyways, that’s all for this… oh… yeah. I’ve got something else to talk about.

This verges into next week’s update but it seemed appropriate to talk about it in this article. I usually write these on Sunday or Monday at the end of the week. But I was tired Sunday after getting a game in, and felt like shit on Monday. So I didn’t. This was a… poor choice. I didn’t do anything on Monday and therefore felt like shit about THAT and therefore didn’t get anything done Tuesday morning. Now it’s late on Tuesday and I’m writing this up, not having done anything for the first two days of the week. That’s not great for this week’s progress.

There’s only one way to get back on the hobby horse, and that’s to do something and get started. In my case, that something writing up an article for a dumb website that people will read for some reason which escapes me. Thanks for reading, and for being here through this hobby journey. Writing these up ha done as much to keep me on track as any spreadsheet or plan could.

On that less gloomy note, I’ll leave you with a photo of what I have done of the force so far. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some Battle Sisters to assemble.
