Asmodee Brings on Former CMON Leader to Head Crowdfunding Strategies Team

It looks like Asmodee isn’t done picking the meat off of the bones of CMON just yet. Former COO of CMON and mastermind of much of CMON’s crowdfunding success, David Preti, is joining Asmodee in a new role specifically focused on developing new crowdfunding campaigns.

David Preti joined CMON in 2016, where he served initially as the company’s creative director before shouldering the COO role in 2019. In his time at the company, Preti was a champion for many crowdfunding successes that would define CMON, like a Marvel Zombies version of their flagship IP Zombicide (which also now belongs to Asmodee, as it turns out!)

Preti announced he would be leaving the company last year to pursue “other work commitments,” which as it turns out is very likely this new role at Asmodee. This new role, head of crowdfunding and miniature designs, is an entirely new role at Asmodee. According to reporting from Boardgamewire, Asmodee remains tight-lipped about what this role means for Asmodee’s plans for crowdfunding campaigns, which have been sparse in the past.

“We’re happy to have [David Preti] onboard,” an Asmodee spokesperson told Boardgamewire, “and we’ll be providing more information on his role at a later date.”

Preti’s departure likely won’t do anything to improve or worsen the current financial crisis at CMON, since he turned in his resignation last year before the problems plaguing CMON became public knowledge. Preti may have seen the writing on the wall back then though, and decided to get out while the getting was still half good.

As for Asmodee, it looks like the fun is just getting started. The company is coming out swinging from the fallout of Embracer group, and they’ve already made good on their aggressive acquisition plans by picking up Zombicide. While they won’t confirm anything about their crowdfunding plans for now, it is a very safe bet that Asmodee’s got big plans for it with this hire.

Bungie’s Marathon Delayed Indefinitely

Credit: Bungie

Marathon’s had a rough go of it, and the game isn’t even out yet. And to make matters worse, its unknown when it will even be out, as Bungie announced last week that the game is going to be delayed indefinitely.

“Through every comment and real-time conversation on social media and Discord, your voice has been strong and clear,” Bungie writes in an announcement post, “We’ve taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within our Dev team, we’ve made the decision to delay the September 23rd release.”

Bungie addressed in its post several key items that the company wishes to hone in on for improvement, such as improving the survival game and social experience of Marathon. What’s noticeably absent, however, is any mention of a new release window for Marathon. Bungie only gives us a loose timeline of “later this fall” for an update on the release date.

Marathon’s been struggling to gain any positive momentum since it was first announced. From a mixed reception to its existence as an extraction shooter, negative feedback from its alpha build, and an art asset plagiarism scandal making headlines, there’s been no good news to turn public goodwill around on Marathon. If one decides to be optimistic, this extra time in the oven will be what the game needs to finally develop into something worthy of attention. But Bungie isn’t setting the hot new shooter trend here with Marathon; instead the company is chasing the fast fading hotness of the extraction shooter. Time is not on Bungie’s side if they want a piece of that pie before its gone.

Lies of P Sells 3 Million Copies; Developer Gives Staff Two Weeks’ Paid Vacation

Meanwhile, something almost unheard of is happening inside Round8 Studio, the development team behind the soulslike hit Lies of P. Rather than being bizarrely punished for the game’s success, the development team is actually being rewarded! Who knew that was even still possible!

In a heartwarming report from Korean new outlet The Elec (and reported in English via VGC), the staff at Round8 Studio is being rewarded generously by its publisher for reaching the sales milestone of 3 million copies sold. According to the report, every member of the Round8 Studio team is not just getting a bonus of around $7,300, but they’re also all getting two weeks paid vacation as well as a brand new Switch 2 console.

This sales figure of 3 million copies sold does not include those players who used Microsoft’s Game Pass to play the game for “free”, which accounted for several million players on its own.

A good dev team being rewarded like this shouldn’t be as newsworthy as it is. In the modern landscape of video games though, it’s become abundantly clear how volatile the jobs of even the most successful teams are, with several studios that released games to critical and commercial success being hit with major layoffs and closures over the past two years. It may just be one good case out of dozens of very bad ones, but frankly it’s nice to see folks get rewarded for their hard work in making something special.

Reaper Miniatures Moves Out of UK

With all of the talk about tariffs these past few months, it’s easy to forget that it is just one of several economically devastating decisions made by governments in the recent past. Like Brexit. Remember Brexit? Ah, simpler times.

Well it turns out that just because those not in the UK aren’t thinking about Brexit doesn’t mean it doesn’t still have economic consequences. One of those consequences happened just this past week, in fact, as popular miniatures manufacturer Reaper Miniatures announced on its Instagram page that it would be moving the company’s European warehouse from the UK into the Netherlands.

“To make this transition, we’ll be temporarily pausing all EU/UK warehouse orders starting Sunday, June 22, 2025,” Reaper writes in the Instagram post. “But don’t worry—you can still place orders through our US warehouse during this time. We expect the new EU warehouse to be back online by the end of summer—barring any major delays.”

The move to the Netherlands out of the UK is a big deal for EU customers, who previously had to pay a customs fee on Reaper products due to Brexit. Now, with the warehouse in the Netherlands, Reaper’s products won’t need to worry about customs on importing to any EU country due to free trade agreements. While it does now mean the UK will see a price increase, ultimately this change in price is much better for a far larger market.

As of this writing, there has been no news of any major delays for the opening of the new warehouse.

New Edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare Announced

No one would blame Modiphus Entertainment for resting on its laurels with the success of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. Releasing in 2018, the game has garnered a dedicated fanbase, pulling from both fans of fallout as well as skirmish games. It seems like Modiphus has little intention of this though, as the company announced in a Twitch stream last week that it’s currently working on a second edition of the popular game.

According to the Twitch VOD as well as a blog post on the company website, the new edition of Wasteland Warfare is in development and expected to release a little under a year from this writing in Q2 2026. A marquee feature of the new edition is a focus on creating an immersive solo play experience, which Modiphus elaborates on in their announcement post.

“This new edition builds on everything players loved about the original while introducing a streamlined, solo-first experience that lets you explore a procedurally generated wasteland, recruit your warband, and face off against all manner of mutated horrors and hostile survivors.”

The new edition also promises to introduce more factions and characters from the Fallout universe, as well as brand new plastic kits to accompany them.

Modiphus promises that more news about the new edition is coming soon, both on their website as well as the Modiphus YouTube channel.
