In advance of the upcoming release of Codex: Drukhari this weekend Games Workshop have released not just points for the faction but also a massive set of updates covering every faction in the game. Here’s what you need to know:
The New Munitorum Field Manual Adds Drukhari Points
The biggest actual change to the rules this time around is the addition of points for Drukhari. As usual, the change indicators in the MFM are based on changes from the printed points in the new Codex and not the points from the pre-codex Field Manual. The units removed from the Codex are gone, and the Voidraven Bomber has become even more expensive. Generally speaking, most Drukhari units cost 5-10 points more now than they did in the Index, though most also come with better AP and a new ability so it may just be a wash.
Introducing Faction Packs
Players cracking open the Dataslate to look at the Drukhari changes might be shocked to find a blank page now – as of today’s release there are no longer any Dataslate changes to the faction or its detachments, which at first glance seems like a blow to the Reaper’s Wager Detachment released at Grotmas – until you realize that change was folded into the Detachment in this update.
You can find the updated Detachment in the new Faction Packs released for 40k today. Games Workshop have taken all of the relevant PDFs for each faction – Detachments, Datasheets, FAQs and Errata, and Legends Datasheets – and put them into a single, easy-to-find PDF. It’s a nice way to have everything you need for your faction in one place now… except that it doesn’t include Dataslate changes. So if you’re grabbing the Chaos Space Marines faction pack, be advised that the dataslate changes to the Dread Talon Detachment or Datasheets like the Lord Discordant and Vashtorr aren’t in there.
Note that the faction pack for Drukhari now includes their newly-minted Legends units, so if you’re aching to run those on the table still, you can with those rules. They’re actually pretty good, and likely to be worth running at the Grand Narrative if you’re going to that in November. The Court of the Archon is particularly crazy.
We’ve been looking at the Faction Packs this morning but so far haven’t seen any changes to the content of them outside of Drukhari, but if that changes we’ll update this article to let you know.
CHANGELOG
Some things have changed! We’re not sure if they’re intentional or errors. Here’s what we’ve spotted:
- Swooping Hawks have been reverted to their pre-update points value of 170 for 10.
- Ghaz is now back to counting 15 models for transport cap in the Orks pack, but the Dataslate still overrides this.
- Leagues of Votann – The Brandfast Oath Detachment’s Secure Positions Stratagem lost its “End of phase” restriction. It still prevents charges.
- The Emperor’s Shield Detachment ability changed – it’s now a once per game ability to re-roll wounds against your Oath target.
