Hey everybody, it’s time for another How to Paint Everything for Marvel Crisis Protocol and today I’ll be going over how I painted the Asgardian Shrine terrain set. This large terrain piece features a removable Valkyrie statue and some sections of the stonework elements which can be used during the game as throwable terrain. These play features allow you to interact with the Asgardian Shrine in new ways, rather than it just taking up space on the table.
For this terrain we are going to be doing a zenithal priming technique on the entire piece. Which means having it mostly assembled before priming can begin. Luckily all of the upright stonework sections slot into sides of the platform they surround and are held firmly in place. I used a bit of poster tack putty to hold the break away sections into place as well, just to be safe. While the Valkyrie slots into the base with angled pegs to keep her from tipping over.
This piece was extremely simple to paint. Here is a chart featuring all of the colors used to paint the Asgardian Shrine.

Painting the Stonework
To start, the entire model was spray painted with Chaos Black spray primer, I then followed this with a second coat of Grey Seer spray primer from above. This will help the following Contrast paint layer by giving us built in shadows and highlights. I then painted all of the stonework with Gryph-Charger Grey Contrast paint and while it was still drying I used a thick brush to splotch the surface with Skeleton Horde Contrast paint, this will give the stone a bit of color variation as well. Once the Contrast paint is fully dry, I drybrushed the surface with Administratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey.

Wash: Citadel Contrast Gryph-Charger Grey
Layer: Citadel Contrast Skeleton Horde
Drybrush: Citadel Administratum Grey

Painting the Rough Stone
Since we’ve already primed the entire model, we will use that zenithal priming to our advantage again while painting the rough stone areas. This time I used Black Templar Contrast paint as the main color of the stone and once again followed it up with Skeleton Horde Contrast paint. Once those were fully dry, I did another round of drybrushing with Administratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey.

Layer: Citadel Contrast Skeleton Horde

Painting the Gold Trim
The gold areas on the stonework needed to be cleaned up a bit, thanks to the previous round of drybrushing. To start I did a basecoat of Black and then a simple round of drybrushing with Retributor Armour to give it a rough texture. I then highlighted it with another drybrushing of Stormhost Silver, focusing on the edges as much as possible.
Basecoat: Vallejo Model Color Black
Drybrush: Citadel Retributor Armour
Drybrush: Citadel Stormhost Silver

That’s it! Arguably the easiest terrain piece I’ve painted for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with a different color for the rough stone, to break up the greyness of it all. In person you can tell the difference between the stonework and the rough stone, but in photos it all kind of blends together.
