Hey everybody, today I have a new How to Paint Everything which will be convering the entire contents of the Rival Panels: Weapon X kit. This terrain kit comes with a fully realized military bunker terrain piece as well as character models for Logan, the Wolverine and Sabretooth, Apex Predator. I’ll be going over each of these in turn. So strap it, its going to be a big one!
Let’s get Started with the bunker itself. This is a massive Size 5 terrain piece for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. It will fit in with any military themed terrain you have available and doesn’t include any faction specific markings on it, which is nice. I currently use mine alongside the Hydra terrain as part of Hydra themed secret base.

Painting the Concrete
Basecoat – Citadel Stormvermin Fur
Speckle – Citadel Karak Stone
Speckle – Citadel Administratum Grey
Speckle – Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Wash – Citadel Nuln Oil
Drybrush – Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Algae Staining – Citadel Athonian Camoshade
Rust Staining – Citadel Fire Dragon Bright: Citadel Lamhian Medium
All of the concrete sections were painted with a basecoat of Stormvermin Fur, I then broke out the toothbrush and started flicking Karak Stone, Administratum Grey, and Ulthuan Grey on it. After I was happy with the coverage of the speckles I washed the entire model down with Nuln Oil. With the Nuln Oil dry, I then drybrushed all of the concrete areas with Ulthuan Grey. To add some visual interest, I added surface staining with Athonian Camoshade and thinned Fire Dragon Bright.
Painting the Rusty Metal
Basecoat – Citadel Chaos Black Spray Primer
Drybrush – Citadel Leadbelcher
Stipple – Citadel Mournfang Brown
Drybrush – Citadel Fire Dragon Bright
Drybrush – Citadel Stormhost Silver
Rust Recess Wash – Citadel Fire Dragon Bright: Citadel Lamhian Medium
All of the rusty metal was painted Leadblecher via drybrushing over Black. I then stippled the metals with Mournfang Brown. From there I drybrushed the surfaces Fire Dragon Bright and Stormhost Silver. To add rust staining in the recesses I painted them with a mix Fire Dragon Bright with Lamhian Medium, similar to the surface stains on the concrete sections.
Painting the Dirt
Basecoat – Citadel Gorthor Brown
Wash – Citadel Athonian Camoshade
Drybrush – Citadel Ushabti Bone
Since I knew that a lot of the dirt would be covered in snow. I went fairly simple with it. I basecoated any dirt areas with Gorthor Brown. To give it some extra color I washed these areas with Athonian Camoshade. Once it was dry, it got a quick drybrush of Ushabti Bone.
Painting the Fallen Logs
Basecoat – Vallejo US Olive Drab: Citadel Mournfang Brown
Drybrush – Citadel Gorthor Brown
Tree Interior – Citadel Ushabti Bone
Wash – Citadel Athonian Camoshade
The fallen logs on the terrain piece, along with the character bases, were painted with a mix of US Olive Drab and Mournfang Brown. The bark was then drybrushed with Gorthor Brown o bring out some of the texture. The meat of the tree was given a sloppy layer of Ushabti Bone and then the entire thing as given a Athonian Camoshade wash.
Painting the Snow
Basecoat – Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Wash – Citadel Pylar Glacier
Drybrush – Vallejo Model Color White
Flocking – Citadel Snow Basing Material (Possibly sub out for Valhallen Blizzard Basing Paint, or something similar)
Wash – Citadel Pylar Glacier
Drybrush – Vallejo Model Color White
Snow is always tricky. For this one I had some leftover Citadel static snow in a tub. I decided to use it up, but you can use over snow flocks or technical paints. I painted all of the snow areas Ulthuan Grey and gave them a layer of Pylar Glacier Contrast Paint. I drybrushed them all White again and then glued down the snow basing material. It needed something extra, so I washed all of the snow with Pylar Glacier. This made the snow way too blue. So I spent a lot of time drybrushing it white again to knock the blue down as much as I could.
Logan, the Wolverine
Alright, let’s move on to our man Logan. This version of Logan trades in the yellow spandex for his trademark leather jacket and jeans as well and can sport either a cowboy hat or bare head. I went with the hat, since I feel it makes the miniature more interesting.

Painting His Skin/ Face

Denim is fun to paint, because you can do some drybrushing and it simulates the fabric pretty well. To start I used Calgar Blue as a base layer. I then added shadows to all of the creases, folds and shadowed areas by painting them with a mixture of Calgar Blue and Jokaero Orange. From there, I drybrushed the jeans with a mix of Calgar Blue and Ulthuan Grey, followed by another drybrush of Ulthuan Grey and finally a very light drybrush of XV-88 to simulate some dirt.

Drybrush – Citadel Stormhost Silver
Over a black primer coat, I drybrushed the entire bike with Iron Warriors and Stormhost Silver.
