Greetings, true believers! Today we are going to be looking at every single 6+ threat that has been released in the game so far, just like we already did with the 3-threat models. You’re investing a lot at these threat levels, so these models need to have a significant impact to justify their cost. These characters are usually meta-definers at the competitive level, too. This list is 100% subjective, so feel free to discuss it! Before we jump in, here are the criteria I am using for each tier in the list:
S-Tier: these are exceptional characters. Not only are they usually the best in their affiliations, but you should also consider them every time you build a list, or expect to face them in nearly every game and you should have a plan.
A-Tier: these are almost always included for their affiliation and they get splashed into rosters quite often.
B-Tier: these are solid models within their given affiliation, however they don’t really see their best play outside of affiliation. This is where the majority of characters will land.
C-Tier: these characters typically have better alternatives within their own affiliation.
D-Tier: I won’t say these are hot garbage because I think everyone should be able to play the characters they love. However, you are facing an uphill battle if you include these characters in your Squad.
Let the controversy begin! I am tackling these characters in alphabetical order instead of going through each tier.

Apoc has made some very middling mutant models absolutely shine. However, because of how he benefits and interacts from his own leadership, he really is not splashable anywhere else. I think this is just good and balanced game design, however.

CGR was a menace when I first started playing MCP. I had no idea how to maximize his abilities at that time. He has been given an update, which has taken him from “insane” to “good, but not broken.” I have used him in multiple affiliations and he can be very effective beyond just Guardians or Black Order. I especially like him in an affiliation that can pass him power early in the game.
Ranking: A

If you include Dormammu in your squad, you have to use his leadership. So, he is always in affiliation, and really he is only as good as the pieces you choose to include around him.
Ranking: B

With a cost of 6-threat, you really have to be committed to making a game plan around him since he doesn’t have any affiliation whatsoever. He has a great kit and rewards smart play.
Ranking: B

Hulk works wherever you need him to work for you. He is a great model and can do work for you every time he is in your squad.
Ranking: S

I love this model. And I don’t think he’s bad, I just think Hulk is a better 6-threat in the Avengers, and I think all of the Captain America leaderships are more widely applicable. I want to live in a world with more Hulkbuster being played.
Ranking: C

If you are playing this model, it means you’re not playing the 5-threat version and its leadership, and then you’re having to play Maximus’s leadership, which may not be ideal for your game plan. He is still a relatively new model, and the other three in his box are getting a ton of play on the tabletop.
Ranking: C

His card is absolutely full of text, and it’s all pretty good. Additionally, Magnetic Refraction is an incredible card that is stapled to him at all times. However, he works best while he is in affiliation.
Ranking: B

I did not get to experience original release Malekith. I’ve heard he was a menace. His leadership is still good, and I really like Ferocity. I just don’t know if he pulls enough weight for his 7-threat cost, but I can see him making a comeback with the recent changes to Thanos in Cabal.
Ranking: B

Phoenix is a very nuanced 6-threat. She is not a blunt force instrument. I don’t think her ideal play patterns have been figured out yet, but I think that is a credit to how she has been designed. I think X-Men are about the only place to try her out at the moment, and there are better models you could get in-affiliation for 6-threat.
Ranking: C

A-Force has seen a resurgence in popularity, and players are figuring out that her leadership is actually pretty good, and it’s attached to a good model, too. I would say throw her into Avengers or anywhere else you would slot in Hulk, but Hulk is just a little bit more efficient than her.
Ranking: B

Before the Infinity Gems were changed, I would have ranked him as an S-tier character. Now that he has to pay the power cost of the gems, though, his playability has gone down significantly.
Ranking: B

His 7-threat can make the math a little funky, but I-Hulk is fantastic. He has many of the same tools as 6-threat Hulk, but with his Immortality token, he can be a little bit more survivable with potentially 25 health and healing every turn when he has a token. One Below All is also a fantastic Tactics card that adds even more utility to him.
Ranking: A

Like Thanos, this version of Thor was an S-tier character before he got an update. He was wild. And he’s not bad now, it’s just pre-update Thor was so incredibly good.
Ranking: B
