Mikey Mouse Club #57 – Lorecast Reveals The Next Chapter!

What a wild couple of weeks it’s been over here in Disney Lorcana land. The meta-shaking news that Hiram Flaversham and Fortisphere were officially banned was already a lot. Now, Ravensburger has come through with even more news in an official Lorecast as the game looks at closing out its second year and heading into its third. And to top it all off there’s lots of new characters and settings making their Lorcana debut amid the new rarities and looming reprints. In some ways there’s never been a more exciting time to be a Disney Lorcana player, which is saying a lot as we are looking toward the eighth, ninth and tenth sets.

Of course the biggest news remains the rotation coming this September, which will see the game’s first four sets relegated to the new “Infinity” format, which is a constructed game that lets you “play with all your cards” (as the slide cheerfully suggests). But more significantly, further details on the Fabled release have come to light and it’s quite interesting. My pal Neuromorph and I had hoped to see something like the old Magic: The Gathering core sets, and it turns out that Fabled is kind of like that but also sort of a transitional product. It’s been stated that this is kind of a special set, as future sets will not have such a high ratio of reprints.

Apparently over half of the set will be reprints from the rotated-out sets.  A few have been shown and it’s great to see that some staple cards are staying in the game. I’m not sure I can go without Captain Hook – Forceful Duelist and he’s back in Fabled with new artwork. I’m very pleased to see that you can use any version of cards that are in the reprint, so there’s no need to replace your First Chapter cards with new copies. This is an excellent move that should soothe the Chicken Littles out there.

But an even more excellent move is that they’ve finally listened to what the people really want. That’s right: A Goofy Movie is coming to Lorcana. I haven’t been this stoked since the DuckTales debut back in Into the Inklands. I’m looking forward to Max, Roxanne, P.J. Principal Mazur and “Hi Dad Soup” making their cardboard debut. And of course POWERLINE.  If “I 2 I” isn’t a song card, we riot.

As if that’s not enough, Gargoyles is also slated to come to the game. And The Black Cauldron. I can’t help but shake just my head at how awesome that news was. The only downer is that they are for set 10, Whispers in the Well coming in Q4 2025. The promo art features Ariel and Broadway for god’s sake. And then there’s Darkwing Duck in 2026, who will join Pocahontas and the Pixar crew in what is already shaping up to be a banner year for the game. Coming up more immediately, Bambi will be appearing with his (you knew that right?) friends in Reign of Jafar, which is fast upon us. I’ll cover Reign of Jafar more thoroughly in the weeks to come- there’s some great looking cards on the way based on the previews that have been shown.

The somewhat controversial World Championship 2025 has also been detailed a little more clearly with official statements about why the event has been made private – which irked some folks that were looking forward to attending side tournaments and fan events. The event will be held June 28 and 29th at the Happiest Place on Earth, of course, strictly for the 28 competitors and their plus ones. The whole thing will be streamed and probably most importantly, the A Whole New World promo card will be available in some way for folks who watch the broadcast. As part of the new direction, the leadership has promised better communication and some as-yet-undisclosed changes to the Disney Lorcana Challenge programming.

So it looks like Disney Lorcana is aiming to finish its second year strong and get set up for success in 2026. There’s also new products on the way, like a new collection starter set, and who knows what other surprises are in store. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing missing right now- and sorely missing, I might add- is an online platform to play the game.
