We’re kicking off our Best Year in Gaming competition with a matchup in the Southeast Conference – 1986 vs. 2012! Click on the icons below to read the articles making the case for each year.
VS.
We’re starting with two very solid years, and a nice little set of narrative bookends: On the one hand, we have Nintendo’s meteoric ascent in 1986, as the Nintendo Entertainment System saw broad release in the US market, becoming the hottest toy of the year and setting Nintendo up for a decade of dominance in the video game sector. On the other hand in 2012 we have the Wii U, Nintendo’s greatest failure as a console launch, leading the company to report annual losses for the first time in its history. And in-between a host of outstanding games, from Blood Bowl and Final Fantasy to X-Wing and Fez.
If you’re interested in voting on the outcome, head over to our Patreon and join our Discord server to vote. Otherwise, check back tomorrow for the winner and the next matchup in the Southeast Conference.
