In our Road to LVO series, we’re following several different players and hobbyists as they prepare to play in one of the largest wargaming conventions on the planet. This year’s Road to LVO series is sponsored by Frontline Gaming.
Well, we’re finally here. This week, gamers from across the world will meet up at the world’s largest wargaming convention to square off across a variety of miniature battlefields in one of the most important events of the year. If you’ve been following our “Road to LVO” series, you’ve seen the prep that goes into the event, whether that’s for 40k, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team, or even hobbyists.
LVO XII kicks off on Thursday, and if you were thinking about grabbing last-minute tickets to go, you should know that there’s still time. I’ve personally done the last-minute trip up to Vegas for LVO before – specifically back in 2023, when I was invited to play a preview game of Warhammer 40k 10th edition with some other content creators – and I was surprised at how easy it was to book that trip and get set up (Vegas hotels are also cheaper than you’d expect). It’s a world-class event and I was surprised at how many people I knew who I just randomly bumped into while I was there.
Whether you already booked travel or you’re looking to set up a last-minute trip, there are two key resources we’d suggest checking out before you do:
LVO XII – What you Need to Know
This link from Frontline Gaming has everything you need to know about registration, times –Â note that the schedule has changed – storing your army, and the shuttle bus to and from the venue from the Golden Nugget. On that schedule note that you can Register as early as 9am on Thursday and LVO opens at 2pm.
Ben’s Road to LVO: Your Las Vegas Insider
If you’re already going and looking for suggestions on food or entertainment, Las Vegas resident and LVO championship hopeful Ben Jurek wrote a wonderful piece on his favorite spots to hang out and what you need to know about the new location on Fremont. Casinos aren’t personally my thing, but there are a ton of great restaurants and cool things to do in Vegas and knowing those makes the trip much more enjoyable whenever I’m there.
Streaming the Event
If, even after all that, you’ve still decided to stay home well, that doesn’t mean you can’t catch some of the action – LVO has a streaming page with links to the channels that will be streaming key events, from the Age of Sigmar to X-Wing. Be sure to check that out all through the event to follow along, and if you happen to tune in while one of the Goonhammer crew is on stream, why not cheer them on?
