The Old World: Kralmaw, the Prophet of Ruin – The Goonhammer Review

Kralmaw is coming to the tabletop this June and he’s ready to lead his Brayherd into the Warhammer World with their Arcane Journal. Before we start thank you very much to Games Workshop for sending us this model for the review.

On the tabletop I really like Kralmaw, you can read more in the Beastmen Brayherds Arcane Journal review found here. He comes with his familiar, the Leering Spirit, which is a brilliant little model in it’s own right and as someone who’s painted about 6-7 different Beastmen Shamans over the years I can put my hand on my heart and say this is the favorite one I’ve ever had the opportunity to paint.

So where to start? These are the parts he comes in, eight casts make up the models with 11 different parts (and two bases) to stick together into the finished article.

What I would say is that there is a little bit of flash around some of the more delicate parts of the models such as the branches on the top end of his staff as shown in the photo below. This isn’t a large amount but it is something you’re going to need a hobby knife to tidy up, so not something to attempt for your first models.

Kralmaw did go together really well, but he’s fairly fixed in his pose (as is the spirit) so outside of the right hand and the decoration on the staff he’s not going to be the easiest to convert if that’s the route you want to take. He’s got a bucket load of details all over with two bells, a pouch, a handful of skulls, some body parts and so many teeth and bones, so it’s not the quickest paintjob with that amount of little things to paint.

The only other thing I’d really like to point out if that he’s got a large cavity under the left arm into his body but the staff makes it really hard to get into that area to apply the paint. It’s in a recess which people won’t see easily but I’d really recommend not sticking the staff on until after you’ve painted inside there. But other than that there isn’t really anything to note.

I’d estimate it took me around 5-6 hours to get him to the state he’s in in the photos below and I’m really pleased with him and his spirit. I can’t wait to get him onto the table with the rest of my Brayherds and see him causing havoc into the enemy lines flexing his muscles with his magical might.
