The Best Year in Gaming: 1974 vs. 2001

Welcome back to our Best Year in Gaming March Madness bracket competition! Yesterday we looked at 1983 vs. 2000, a real David-vs-Goliath story, with the year of gaming’s collapse going up against a real juggernaut in the year of the PlayStation 2 and the Dreamcast’s strongest year. Ultimately video games won out, and 2000 advances to the next round.

Result: 2000 Wins

Today we’re looking at one year later and putting it up against the first year in our competition, 1974.

VS.

This time around it’s all about how you feel about the importance and value of the original Dungeons & Dragons over the likes of Halo, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. My money’s on 2001, a year with some stellar games which really has a chance at making a deep run, but you never know how things will fall out.
