The Best Year in Gaming – Round 2 in the Northeast Conference

Welcome back to our Best Year in Gaming March Madness bracket competition! Yesterday we kicked off round two with our first doubleheader and today we have another one. In a lopsided blowout, 2004 beat 1985, and in a competition that wasn’t as close as I expected it to be, 1999 beat 2003 pretty handily.

Results: 2004 and 1999 win

Today we have another pair of matchups:

VS.

In our first competition we’re pitting two back-to-back years against each other, as 1990 takes on 1991. And, well, there’s a reason 1991 didn’t have to play the first round. As strong as 1990 is, 1991 introduces many of the best games of all time while also being the first real year of competition between the Super Nintendo and and the Sega Genesis.

VS.

1987 had a strong first round, featuring a large number of important games from the late 80s. But as a year it has likely met its match going up against 2009 – something which may not become clear until you actually read the lineup of games. I confess I’d forgotten some of the year’s releases and going back over it I was continually surprised by how many big games were on the list.

If you’re interested in voting on the outcome, head over to our Patreon and join our Discord server to vote. Otherwise, check back tomorrow for the winner and the next matchup in the Southeast Conference.
